My oldest daughter is very into Harry Potter everything right now and she has been begging me for a bedroom makeover. I was a little on the fence, but then I starting looking around and I realized I had a lot of great vintage decor items that would work seamlessly for this makeover. I think Harry Potter lends itself nicely to spooky season but then it carries over naturally to Christmas in a unique way, so I talked myself into creating this Harry Potter whimsical bedroom.
Floating Candles
Every Harry Potter theme starts with the floating candles. There is just something so amazing about the view of their dining hall and those thousands of candles floating every which way. To create this look, I used battery operated candles (a lot of batteries), fishing line, and clear command hooks. This was the most tedious part of this makeover, BUT it has the biggest impact. Make sure you get candles that have a remote so you can easily turn them on and off, we used this set here.
Bedding
The bedding was a big deciding factor for me on this project. This bedroom has a very unique Ruggable that has many colors so I wanted something that would coordinate well with our bright color scheme, which is not typical of the Harry Potter palette. This velvet comforter changed everything! It was the perfect shade of pink and the velvet texture gave it that wonderful, whimsical look. I paired the bedding with super soft sheets in a fun Harry Potter pattern and a vintage plaid throw to add in some Gryffindor coloring.
Decor
Now you all know I can not do a project without adding in a little vintage decor and let me tell you, this was the best part! I knew I had a broom that would work for a “Nimbus 2000” broomstick and if it was floating it would make it ten times better. I used an array of vintage books around the room in bookshelves and on their dresser. We mixed in antique letters, lots of brass elements, plants, and a few frogs. I also had a really unique distressed witch hat that looked very similar to the “sorting hat”. I always try to shop my home with any project and this Harry Potter theme made it so easy! I also used vintage suitcases at the end of each bed to give it that real Hogwarts look!
I added in a few inexpensive new decor pieces as well, which were the banners and the door sign. Most of the products are all linked below. Overall the girls were absolutely over the moon when they saw it! 10/10 would recommend giving your kids’ bedroom a makeover, I think it gives them a new sense of pride to keep their space clean and really enjoy their time in their bedroom as well. I solemnly swear I am up to no good – but really this was so good! I can’t wait to show you the additions for Christmas!
