How to Hang A Plate Wall

July 23, 2020 by thevettelfarm

I have dreamt about a jadeite plate wall for many years, but all I could see was shattered green glass on the floor. I have been inspired by so many gorgeous plate walls in the past few years, that I figured I needed to face my fears and get some pretty green plates up on the wall!

Finding the right hanger was key to facing my fears. When I first started researching hangers, I learned that people often use three different methods:

1) Command Strips – I just don’t trust them enough! Even though they really do hang vintage signs nicely. These are my favorite. These would be good if you can not nail holes in your wall, but I would only recommend with lighter, smaller style plates.

2) Sticky Hangers – there are hangers that use a circular sticker to stick to the back of the plate. This sticker has a hanger on it that you use to hang on the hook in the wall. Here is an example.

3) Tension Hangers – This was the true winner for me. This method uses a tension spring with four grips to grip the plate. They come in all different sizes according to the size of your plate. I used these hangers for smaller plates and these hangers for platters. The tension hangers are fairly easy to get on the plates and then you just hammer the nail in (provided) and hang your plate using the “V” part of the hook on the back of the tension hanger.

I had so much fun styling different red, white, and blue patterns for a fun Fourth of July display. My red, white, and blue plate collection pieces all came from garage sale finds! I am super excited about my next holiday adventure – Thanksgiving plates! I have amassed a hefty collection of brown and green transfer-ware dishes that are going to look spectacular in November. I am a plate wall level expert now!

The true stunner was this jadeite display that I came up with. It utilizes all FireKing jadeite patterns of all kinds, Alice, Jane Ray, Swirl, and Restaurant Ware! The perfect display of one of my favorite manufacturers of jadeite! Just another way to display some minty green glass goodness.

So now I am here to tell you, YOU CAN DO THIS TOO! It’s all about the right hanger. Trust me, I would not be hanging my prized jadeite on the wall if I didn’t have confidence in these hangers. Do they make several nail holes in your wall, YES, but that’s what nail hole filler is for, right?!! So don’t be afraid, I am here to tell you it will be all right and your gorgeous plate wall is within reach with the right hanger!

P.S. If you are in the market for a gorgeous artificial peony bouquet, these are my favorite! The minty green especially!

She kept the time… I kept the moments. 🤍 I turned She kept the time… I kept the moments. 🤍

I turned a collection of vintage watches into something they were always meant to hold, a story. Each tiny face now carries a photo of my Mom or my Grandmas, like little time capsules I can wear all the time.

Because time doesn’t just pass… it becomes us.
And this Mother’s Day, I wanted to give something that says you’re with me in every second.

A gift made of seconds, memories, and the women who shaped mine.

This little garden planter is pieced together from broken vintage glassware and finished with stamped silverware tucked in like tiny heirlooms. Every crack, every pattern, every piece tells a story and now they’re all growing something new together.

A reminder that even the most delicate things can be remade into something beautiful again ✨
