I won’t lie to you, Chemistry was my least favorite course in high school. I hated it with a passion, so when it came to choosing the process for soap making, I chose the least scientific route possible. In doing that though, I found an easy and fun DIY project that creates the most gorgeous soaps for guests or gifts!
This project takes a few supplies, but I have rounded up everything at the bottom of this post for you to easily find what you need. I loved choosing different add-ins, fragrances, and colors for each soap. This project was so simple, even my girls each made their own variety of soap.
Supplies
- Soap Base (Oatmeal, Glycerin, Goat’s Milk)
- Fragrance (Lavender, Coconut, Eucalyptus)
- Add-Ins (Dried Herbs, Lavender, Calendula)
- Resin Dye
- Silicone Molds
Directions
- Using a glass measuring cup with a spout, microwave your soap base in 30 second increments until it is smooth. Be sure not to overheat your soap base as this can ruin your soap. Typical melt point is between 115 and 125 Fahrenheit.
- Once your soap base is melted, add in your fragrance. Use 0.3 ounces per pound of melt and pour soap base. Make sure to stir thoroughly.
- Add in any coloring. I used a small pinch of the resin dye to create coloring. Add more for deeper color and stir thoroughly.
- Place your dried flowers or herbs in your silicone molds.
- Pour your soap base into your mold.
- Your mold may have tiny bubbles on the surface, use a spray bottle filled with alcohol to give them a small spritz and the bubbles will disappear. ( I skipped this step).
- Let your molds set for 1-2 hours.
- Un-mold your soap and enjoy!
Using the silicone molds made the process very simple, the soaps popped right out! I love that this project didn’t require a lot of additional tools and it was very easy to clean up. It is comparable to making your own candles, but easier in my opinion. I hope you give it a try and let me know how yours turns out. Mother’s Day is right around the corning and these would make the perfect gift!
