The long awaited reveal of the carriage house apartment of the Victorian on Van Buren is finally here! We were so lucky to find this beautiful 1880 historic Victorian home in the heart of Deadwood, South Dakota and even more lucky that we had a wonderful garage/apartment space that came with it! The original state of the garage/apartment was not that appealing, so it needed a complete overhaul. Check out how this space looked when we began!
Why We Chose Select Surfaces Vinyl Flooring
This transformation is one for the record books and the quintessential feature of this apartment is the amazing flooring. We chose vinyl flooring from Select Surfaces in the Sedona color. You can find it at Sam’s Club here! The apartment has a concrete floor, so we needed a floor that was going to work well with a slightly uneven existing floor. Select Surfaces vinyl planks can be installed over most surfaces; concrete, ceramic, wood, and vinyl.
The vinyl plank flooring is also 100% waterproof, which was necessary for this space as it is attached to a garage. It is made with a dense SPC rigid core which provides durability. This being a studio apartment it houses a small living space, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. We used the Select Surfaces flooring in all of these areas because it is highly durable and stain and scratch resistant.
Installation
When I tell you that installation was a breeze, I 100% mean it! With many of these projects, we try to do them ourselves and the Select Surfaces flooring was ideal for do it yourself installation. The flooring uses a click installation system, so installation is very simple and moves quickly. You can see in the detail below that the faux wood grain is very authentic!
Color
For the flooring we chose the Sedona vinyl plank and this was truly a great choice. The wood grain in these planks looks so amazing and the Sedona color choice was the perfect blend for our dark trim and modern paint colors. We chose to paint one wall in the carriage house apartment Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog to act as an accent wall to distinguish the bedroom space. The flooring was the perfect compliment to this color. The flooring gave the space a historic feel but offered all of the modern convenience as it is highly durable, and stain and scratch resistant.
