Easter is fast approaching and nothing is more beautiful than a carefully, curated Easter table. Each year the bright Spring colors bring so much joy to the season and set the scene for a splendid holiday. These are three considerations that help to coordinate a well thought-out tablescape that is captivating, but also functional.
Set a THEME
Each year I devote a lose theme to center around for my Easter tablescape. It can be as simple as a color, animal, or concept. Last year I was very inspired by the antique putz sheep I had found and I developed an entire table around lambs for Easter. Another was focused on all pastel colors and the use of a chenille bedspread as my tablecloth. Other great Easter ideas are Peter Rabbit, a specific color, a special antique, a piece of glassware, carrots, eggs, bunnies, Spring greenery, etc.
This year I chose to center our Easter table all around the garden. It is been very cold in North Dakota this Spring, today we tied for the record low of all time and we are just 4 inches away from the record snowfall amounts in North Dakota. I thought a bright, cheerful garden table full of fresh vegetables was the perfect answer!
Add a Unique Element
Your basic table always includes a mix of plates, tablecloths, runners, silverware and glassware, but adding an additional element to your table makes it truly special. For example, try a unique napkin fold, add bread sticks to your napkins as a great first bite for your guests, use fancy name cards, or tuck in a small piece of candy to your place setting. The opportunities are endless, but that small addition makes your table stand apart from the rest.
To play on the garden theme, I used new terracotta pots to serve as mini charcuterie for my guests. I used fresh vegetables like cucumbers, broccoli, celery, kale, and cherry tomatoes to create a rainbow of crunchy treats for guests to nibble on before our Easter meal. I like to think that Peter Rabbit would be very proud of this tablescape.
Mix Old and New
This is a timeless tip for success that can be applied to all areas of your home, the mix of old and new is pure magic. This method applies to your tables as well. I have large collections of glassware, so my place setting almost always has a vintage nod. I love to incorporate new elements in my runners, tablecloths, and linens.
Your centerpiece is also a great way to incorporate a vintage or antique element. The addition of vintage elements gives your table a special uniqueness that no other table can match! Using pieces that are heirlooms or have special ties to your family is also an extra bonus.
