I have a small collection of antique green handled garden tools that I love to display and use. I have always wanted to display them on the outside of my garden shed and I knew I needed a rack that would live up to their vintage splendor. Using a piece of architectural salvage is a great way to showcase this unique collection that you can see below.
Last Spring I went to a really fun garage sale for a couple that was getting out of the antique business. They had so many neat items and they were ready for it all to go to a good home. I bought a huge lot of great items and actually went back to the sale at the end of the day and they stuffed my car full of more treasures! One of those last (FREE) items was this chippy blue salvage piece that I have used for several different projects.
I knew I needed antique style hooks to coordinate with this piece of salvage, so when I found the perfect blue hooks at an auction, it was time to bring this project to life! Here is the simple step-by-step!
Supplies
- Architectural Salvage
- Wire Hooks
- Screws
- Garden Tools
Directions
- Find a piece of salvage that will work for your length. This could be an antique piece of interior trim, exterior trim, or any long piece of wood with character.
- Lay out your garden tools to determine where hooks need to be placed. Some tools have a handle and only require one hook, while some tools need two hooks placed closer together to hold the tool.
- Pre-drill holes and screw in your wire hooks.
- Hang your garden tool rack in a place that is accessible if you plan to use or to decorate with!
This piece will continue to age with time and get better and better. I can not wait to hunt for a few more vintage green garden tools to add to this fun display. This would be such a fun project to create for a coat hanger or even a hook rack in a kitchen space too. Let me know if you have any questions!
