Vintage Inspired Spice Drawer

The New Year is that special time when we all have the urge to ORGANIZE, or at least I do! Each year I break down areas in our house and tackle small spaces with quick organizational projects. A few years ago I took on this spice drawer and I can not tell you how happy it makes me feel every time I open that drawer. I can easily see every spice and the jar labeling I used is so darn cute. Now I know that everything in our house can not be vintage, but if I can incorporate some vintage inspired style I am going to try. These mini Ball canning spice jars are so adorable and the perfect size for all your spices. I love the look of the embossed labels too. The Dymo label maker uses all ...

Three Simple Winter Decor Ideas

Winter can sometimes be that awkward season after the high of the holidays. Often times I think many take down their Christmas decor and are left with a bare naked feeling. Winter decor to the rescue and it does not have to be complicated! Here are three simple ways to incorporate winter touches throughout your home during these snowy, spectacular months. 1. Add ice skates to a wreath Ice skates are such a universal winter decor staple. They are so easy to find and relatively inexpensive. I find many of mine out at garage sales for a few bucks a pair. For this simple idea, I used string to tie a pair of antique ice skates to a wintry wreath. Ice skates are wonderful for holiday ...

Flannel, Candles, and Fur – the Essentials for a Cozy Winter Bedroom

Tonight's windchill is -38, you read that right. Sometimes I feel like we live in an unique version of Mars on Earth here in North Dakota. Having a cozy bedroom to snuggle up on these blistery, cold nights is necessary! This year I have three go-to tips for a quaint, winter bedroom that will give you all the cozy feels. Flannel Nothing is more nostalgic for me than soft flannel sheets in the winter. My mom used to switch out our sheets as soon as the first snow fall hit the ground and it was the best way to keep your bed extra warm on those winter nights. I keep the tradition alive for my entire family and I often switch out patterns each year. This year I did this fun candy stripe ...

Pantry Organization Tips

Our pantry is really the heart of our kitchen. We have a tiny kitchen, so having an organized pantry is essential! It seems like after the holidays our pantry is quite used and abused, so a reset in January is always a must. Here are a few of my favorite tips to keep your pantry organized, while also adding in some fun, funky vintage flair! 1. Invest in quality storage containers I can not tell you how helpful these containers are to keep a tidy pantry. They are an initial investment, but they truly do last a lifetime. I am partial to the OXO brand to keep everything fresh with their lock top.I linked up my favorite styles and sizes at the bottom of this blog post. 2. Label in ...

Each year putting up my Christmas decor is a small part time job and putting it away is no different. But, when your decor is organized it can make the process so much easier! Most of my Christmas decor is also vintage, so packing it away safely is also an important concern each year. Here are a few of my tips that I use to keep our Christmas decor organized and safe. 1. Clear Totes These clear totes by Sterilite are my absolute favorite. I love the red and green ones for the holidays but any color will do. The fact that they are clear enables me the ability to easily see what ...

Grinch Kid’s Christmas Bedroom

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more!” This still remains my favorite quote from The Grinch Who Stole Christmas! The Grinch remains one of our favorite Christmas characters not only from the classic book, but the fun movies that have followed. This year for Christmas the big girls decided that they wanted to transform their room into Who-Ville and I was up for the challenge! Grinch Gallery Wall  My favorite part of this magical Grinch room is the gallery wall that highlights the real centerpiece of the Grinch, the original book by Dr. Seuss. This hard ...

Make Your Own Vintage Santa Wood Cutout

In the 1950's, the Douglas Fir Plywood Company created whimsical Christmas U-Bild patterns for families to create amazing outdoor scenes. It was a genius idea really and a wonderful way to sell lots of plywood! My love for these developed when I stumbled upon an original Santa that was straight from the 1950's. I researched everywhere to see if it was an old store model or if it was a Coca Cola Santa. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that these graced the lawns of many homes across America and there were other pieces that matched him! I wasn't the only one who was enamored by these jolly Christmas characters, my Mom has been determined to create her own set of all of the characters ...
