When I was little I DREAMED of going to a sleek summer camp in Maine. I was a big fan of the 90s show “Bug Juice” where kids spent their summers at summer camp. I guess we could equate this to my recent love for all things vintage camp style – thermoses, plaid, wool blankets, tennis rackets, paddles – all lend themselves that retro camp vibe.
When my sister got engaged, I knew exactly what theme I would plan for her bridal shower. Her and her fiance have a strong love for travel and camping. She also has small love for vintage, as do I. So vintage camping theme was the perfect pair. I knew I had lots of decor to contribute, but I wanted the menu to incorporate that camp feeling too.
Invite
Here is the invite we chose. I love how it incorporated the pennant, as we love to collect vintage pennants! I had grand plans to hang a big pennant banner, but we ran out of time. Side note: I threw this shower the day after my other sister’s wedding, so we were pushing it for time! We chose this day so our family in New York could celebrate with us too!
Decor
This was the easy part! I have amassed quite the collection of vintage thermoses in every color of the rainbow. A few Skotch coolers, vintage tennis rackets, vintage camp signs, wool blankets and we were in business! I used wool blankets for each of the tables, accented with thermoses full of flowers. The gift table housed a Pendelton blanket and a few vintage camping chairs. Trophies, camping signs and tennis rackets adorned the food table. The crown jewel was the awesome DIY frame made with croquet mallets!
Food
I wanted an all out camping theme, so we feasted on mini hot dogs, campfire nachos, fruit, veggies, and an epic charcuterie board! For dessert we had all the classic bars including my favorite – S’more’s Brownie Bars. Each guest hit the trail mix bar at the conclusion to take home their own mix of tasty trail mix!
It was a great shower and a great way to get excited to bring home all this camping gear to decorate a little more for summer! Life is best when you’re camping!
