The Best Vintage Thanksgiving Decor

November 7, 2022 by thevettelfarm

Thanksgiving is that unique middle child holiday that seems to get forgotten sometimes. It follows the spookiness of Halloween and precedes the wonder of Christmas. I am here to tell you today that Thanksgiving decor is worth the time and has many beautiful, warm notes to add within your home. Vintage decor is my favorite, as you all know, so I thought it was worth sharing my favorite Thanksgiving inspired collectibles with you all during this season of gathering. I hope they offer a sense of cozy and bring light to your family gatherings this Thanksgiving. Vintage Gurley Thanksgiving Candles Gurley candles are special holiday pieces anytime of the year, but the Thanksgiving ...

Harry Potter Whimsical Bedroom

October 7, 2022 by thevettelfarm

My oldest daughter is very into Harry Potter everything right now and she has been begging me for a bedroom makeover. I was a little on the fence, but then I starting looking around and I realized I had a lot of great vintage decor items that would work seamlessly for this makeover. I think Harry Potter lends itself nicely to spooky season but then it carries over naturally to Christmas in a unique way, so I talked myself into creating this Harry Potter whimsical bedroom. Floating Candles Every Harry Potter theme starts with the floating candles. There is just something so amazing about the view of their dining hall and those thousands of candles floating every which way. To create ...

Two Ideas to Try for your Fall Tablescapes

September 25, 2022 by thevettelfarm

It's officially the first day of Fall and we are celebrating with a fun, family supper. The air is finally cool and crisp in North Dakota and we are going to enjoy a hot supper with pork roast, garden potatoes and the cutest pumpkin spice rolls (blog post for those coming soon)! So let's set the scene for this Fall tablescape. I have two new ideas to incorporate into your tablescape to add a little shimmer and fun. This tablescape was inspired by these vintage Libby Gold Leaf Glasses. They came in a set of 8 and even have their own carryall holder. I also wanted to incorporate warm wood tones and my Fireking peach lustre dishware. Use a Cake Liners to Accent Your Place Setting At a ...

Pumpkin Topiary DIY

September 15, 2022 by thevettelfarm

If you are new to The Vettel Farm then you may not know that grasshoppers have taken over pretty much everything outside. We are patiently waiting for our first frost so they can leave the premises. The grasshoppers have eaten every single mum I have brought home, so I have been brainstorming other ideas for cute outdoor decor this year. I found these massive pumpkins at Hobby Lobby and I knew they would be such a statement piece and would last years and years. Here's the full how-to on how to create a topiary with them! Supplies Large pumpkin (found here) Medium pumpkin (found here) Small pumpkin (found here) Piece of rebar (I cut mine to 35 inches, but this will depend ...

It is currently 100 degrees in North Dakota, so I am hoping by sharing this blog post it may give Mother Nature the hint to cool down because I am ready for sweatshirt season! My uniform every Fall is cozy socks, leggings and a crew neck sweatshirt with adorable Fall and Halloween graphics. It is my favorite decorating get-up and each year I treat myself to a new sweatshirt! This year I really focused on vintage inspired graphics because those are always the ones that make me so happy! How to Paint the Perfect Terracotta Pumpkin

September 2, 2022 by thevettelfarm

Everyone, I mean EVERYONE is in love with the terracotta pumpkins that Pottery Barn released this year, but most are not in love with the steep price tag. So I set out to discover how to paint the perfect terracotta pumpkin, one that looks realistic and doesn't break the bank. I used my collection of vintage terracotta pots as my model to get the perfect color! Perfect Paint So I took a gamble on two types of acrylic paint. Both were said to resemble authentic terracotta. I tested each paint color on a pumpkin by itself, but found that they actually created the perfect color when mixed together! I used this Cermacoat Terracotta and FolkArt Dusty Trail. I used baking soda with ...

Best Neutral Fall Stems

August 27, 2022 by thevettelfarm

Growing up in New York, I had the distinct opportunity to live where Fall is absolutely breathtaking. I remember raking leaves was my favorite because my Mom and Dad would always let me jump in the massive piles. The colors of the leaves were magical and the cool, crisp air of the Northeast was the best. Living on the prairies of North Dakota now, I always strive to recreate this Fall feeling with wonderful faux stems. There are so many exceptional options this year in an array of those muted Fall colors we all love and adore. Tap the photo below of each stem to shop! These stems from Hobby Lobby are in my top two favorites, as are these very popular fig stems you can find here! The ...

Back to School Book Wall

August 22, 2022 by thevettelfarm

As a "retired" school counselor books about school are my specialty. School can be an intimidating place for many children and sometimes a friendly story about school can be just the ticket to help. Books about school are also great to share in the excitement of the start of the school year for your children. Decor For our book wall this year we incorporated a few "non-book" items that really added to the school nostalgia. We used a homemade garland of apples my daughters colored, school photos, vintage chalkboards, and some vintage school signs. Here is the apple printable we used. Other fun vintage style decor pieces could included vintage chalk boxes, crayon boxes, erasers, a flash ...

I turned a collection of vintage watches into something they were always meant to hold, a story. Each tiny face now carries a photo of my Mom or my Grandmas, like little time capsules I can wear all the time.

Because time doesn’t just pass… it becomes us.
And this Mother’s Day, I wanted to give something that says you’re with me in every second.

A gift made of seconds, memories, and the women who shaped mine.

I find these exquisite oval, antique frames often and they are such a simple way to create a beautiful entrance at your front door. I use a small amount of floral wire to affix faux florals and a mini bird’s nest for Spring.

I think it would be fun to redesign this one for summer with lots of red, white, and blue! 🇺🇸
