American Flag Veggie Pizza

July 2, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Each and every year I make a flag cake for the Fourth of July. Ina's recipe here is my all time favorite, but this year I wanted to switch it up and try to create a savory flag. So I have combined my all time favorite pot-luck recipe with an American Flag, hail the American Flag veggie pizza! This recipe is so easy, with a few shortcuts! We use refrigerated crescent dough to speed up the recipe, but if you are feeling fancy you can make your own dough, which is soooo delicious. Crisp peppers and delectable cherry tomatoes represent the stripes and black olives take on the role of the stars. American Flag Veggie Pizza 2 tubes refrigerated crescent rolls2 ...

Victorian on Van Buren – Master Bathroom Reveal

June 16, 2021 by thevettelfarm

When I first walked through the Victorian on Van Buren the upstairs kitchen truly captured my heart. It dated back to 1895 and had all bead board cabinets and the original vintage sink. Unfortunately we had no need for a second kitchen and it worked out seamlessly that this would transform into the new master bathroom. Don't worry the bead board and vintage sink all went into the remodel of the main kitchen. This large kitchen space provided ample room for a new master bath and master closet space. I have never had a master bathroom, so this was my chance to go all out and do it right! Let me tell you, this space does not disappoint! This claw foot tub is massive and it came from the ...

Garage Sale Tips for Success

May 7, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Garage Sale, Tag Sale, Rummage Sale, Yard Sale....whatever you call it, they can be the BEST place to find vintage treasures and antiques at reasonable prices! I grew up going to garage sales with my Mom and her best friend in New York. I loved going out and hunting for toys early on, but later developed collections and I just never stopped! I wanted to share my favorite tips for going to garage sales as we embark on the greatest garage sale season ever! Cash is King Let me tell you cash is always the preferred method for a garage sale. Sometimes if you run out of money, a garage sale owner will accept a local check. Also cash is quick! Most times my goal is to hit as many garage sales ...

Rhubarb Margaritas

May 5, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Happy Cinco De Mayo! It has been a very fiery week here in North Dakota, so I thought to lighten the mood we definitely need some margaritas in our life! And what a better way to kick off the return of warmer weather and the hint of summer right around the corner. Rhubarb is one of my favorite things to freeze, so we can enjoy it all year long. These margaritas are my absolute favorite thing to make with Rhubarb Syrup!  First, I cooked the rhubarb with water to extract all of the rhubarb goodness and paired that with a little sugar. I let that mixture meld in the fridge for a few hours. Then mix with tequila and ice and POOF you have a succulent rhubarb margarita to sip ...

Jadeite Inspired Sugar Cookies

April 22, 2021 by thevettelfarm

I can not tell you how over the moon I was to receive these amazing jadeite inspired cookie cutters from Amador's Craft Kits! They are the perfect shape of the famous Fireking jadeite ball pitcher and Fireking jadite D-ring mug. He also included an adorable pyrex cookie cutter set too! You can find all of his amazing craft sets here! Now with the most amazing cookie cutters, I had to craft the best sugar cookie and jadeite icing combo to give these cuties justice. This is one of my favorite sugar cookie recipes. I love that you don't have to refrigerate the dough, so you can make it, cut, and bake them right away! As far as icing, I truly hit the jackpot. I used a basic royal ...

“New” Vintage Hardware for the Victorian on Van Buren

April 15, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Deadwood, South Dakota is known for it's vast history in mineral mining, so choosing the right hardware for the Victorian on Van Buren was critical! The best thing we did for the restoration of our 1885 Victorian home was to get all new coordinating light switch plates and electrical outlet plates. The small touches in this renovation have made the biggest impact. The first compliment we always receive is about the hardware in this fixer upper! All of the light switch plates and electrical outlet covers are from Nostalgic Warehouse. We chose their Victorian switch plate, which was the perfect choice! It has so much charm and character and is characteristic of the Victorian homes of ...

Antique Heater Grate DIY

April 12, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Back in the day, heater grates were so stunning! They had intricate patterns and the most beautiful patina. I have seen really neat projects where people make beautiful tabletops out of them, but I'm not that talented yet! I knew I wanted to display this gorgeous piece for spring and what better than tucking in a few faux succulents? Faux succulents are seriously the best ever! They look very authentic, they are relatively inexpensive and YOU NEVER HAVE TO WATER THEM! That's my favorite part! The opportunities are endless here, you could fill the entire grate with small succulents or create a pattern like I did with the draped succulents. No matter what you choose, it is a neat display ...

Collecting Delphite

April 8, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Many of you know that my one true love collectible is jadeite, but have you ever met Jadeite's sister Delphite? It's funny to say that because my youngest sister is actually the one who started this delphite collection. I wanted to share a little about Delphite with you because when I shared this last year, there were SO many questions and I had a lot to learn. Delphite was actually produced during the same time as jadeite, it even sold for the same price during the depression era. Long before the jadeite craze, delphite was a hot collection item too. Delphite was produced in much smaller quantities, hence making it more expensive and harder to find today. One of my favorite brands of ...

Victorian on Van Buren Main Bathroom – Claw Foot Tub Reveal!

March 31, 2021 by thevettelfarm

I am so ecstatic to be sharing the first bathroom of the Victorian on Van Buren renovations. Bathrooms were the one area in our farmhouse that we have not yet tackled, so to renovate these historic spaces in the Victorian on Van Buren was such an exhilarating project. The main bathroom was original to the home in 1895 (when the second story was added). It had marvelous bead board surrounding the entire space and an epic claw foot tub. The footprint of this bathroom stayed very close to what it originally was in 1895. Here are a few elements that were changed: 1) The original claw foot tub was moved out and a smaller, more appropriate size, historic claw foot tub was put in it's place. ...

When I tell you I dragged my feet on this project When I tell you I dragged my feet on this project forever, I truly did. I could not wrap my brain around how to get the back off of a watch, but it is so darn easy! This project literally took me 10 minutes.

So a few notes, to take the back off of a watch,it’s very simple. You’re going to put a small amount of hot glue on the back of the watch and then glue on a wooden pencil. Let it dry then you’re going to simply twist and it will pop right off. When you’re ready to put the back on the watch, simply peel the glue off and pop it back on.

The other gadget that made this project so simple was the Polaroid printer that I have. I simply took a picture of an existing picture, printed it, and then cut it out by tracing the back of the watch.

The photo itself slips right in front of the watch mechanism so you don’t even have to take anything out if you wanted to keep the watch itself intact.

I chose to do my mom and both of my grandma’s and I cannot tell you how happy this project makes me feel to see their smiling faces. 💗💗💗💗

Comment PRINTER and I’ll send you the link of the Polaroid printer that I used! Don’t forget to look at that jewelry table at the next garage sale you’re at for those fancy vintage watches!
