When I say this project is E-A-S-Y and so very satisfying, I mean it! I thought it would be fun to incorporate some minty green matches into my candle set up in our kitchen and the matches came with the striker stickers. So naturally, I had to find a piece of jadeite to complete the set up.
This sweet little piece of jadeite that I used is a Jeannette custard cup. The Jeannette Glass Company was an American glass manufacturer known for producing Jadeite, a popular green milk glass. The company was founded in 1898 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, and initially focused on making bottles before expanding into pressed glassware in the early 20th century. Jeannette Glass began producing Jadeite in the 1920s and 1930s, making it one of the first companies to introduce this now-iconic opaque green glass. Their Jadeite pieces were typically affordable, mass-produced, and sold in dime stores or as giveaways in grocery stores. Unlike other manufacturers, Jeannette did not mark their pieces, making identification trickier.
The custard cups came as a set of six, often with a metal baking tray. Each custard cup today can range from $40-$80 per custard cup. The metal baking tray can cost a pretty penny, if you can find one. Nonetheless, these custard cups make the perfect vessel for a charming match holder. Truly any vintage vessel with a semi-flat surface could be a great contender for this project.
The matches and striker stickers (which you can find here) come with everything you need for this easy project. Simply place your striker sticker at the base and put your matches inside! Our favorite candles to use with these are Kanda Candles – stock up on all of their amazing Spring scents here!
