For some reason I always envision that my Christmas bedroom needs to mimic Kevin McCallister’s parents bedroom. I love the deep red and green tones, the plaid and the stunning wallpaper. This year, I believe our bedroom gives that same cozy feeling, with more a more modern feel. Don’t worry, there are lots of vintage elements sprinkled throughout too.
Plaid
This bedspread was a huge inspiration for this bedroom, it had all of the perfect colors for my room. It included the deep greens and the soft blues that coordinate with our Sea Salt (SW) walls. The bedspread also has a soft, cozy furry side too, which will be perfect all winter long.
A winter bedroom is not complete until you have the softest plaid sheets. Since the windchill here today is -36 these are an absolute must for us in the winter! I found our sheets here and they were the perfect coordinating plaid to our bedspread.
Scotch Tape
I knew I wanted to incorporate my vintage Scotch tape collection into the bedroom this year because of their iconic plaid patterning. This year I found an old scotch tape sales display and it was the most adorable display piece for my bottle brush wreath collection! Last year I made the scotch tape wreath and I truly love how it looks!
Headboard
The barn door headboard is complete. I started this project this past summer and I was planning to sand the entire barn door. I was unable to remove some of the bright blue paint, so I ultimately decided to paint it in a forest green shade. I used Fusion Mineral paint in the shade Pressed Fern. Let me tell you, this is that perfect 1930’s deep green color. I am always so impressed with Fusion Mineral paint and how easily it transforms a piece of furniture. You can see how nicely it coordinates with my other vintage green furniture pieces.
I incorporated a few other plaid elements with plaid thermoses and warm wool blankets in plaid too. In the past, I was always afraid to mix different plaids but I love the eclectic look that it gives the room. I recently acquired a really neat plaid vintage sign that will be making an appearance in March, so stay tuned for that!
Let me know what you think down in the comments! Wishing you all a warm and Happy Holidays from The Vettel Farm!
