I am so ecstatic to be sharing the first bathroom of the Victorian on Van Buren renovations. Bathrooms were the one area in our farmhouse that we have not yet tackled, so to renovate these historic spaces in the Victorian on Van Buren was such an exhilarating project. The main bathroom was original to the home in 1895 (when the second story was added). It had marvelous bead board surrounding the entire space and an epic claw foot tub. The footprint of this bathroom stayed very close to what it originally was in 1895. Here are a few elements that were changed:
1) The original claw foot tub was moved out and a smaller, more appropriate size, historic claw foot tub was put in it’s place. Don’t worry the big claw foot tub was moved to the master bathroom.
2) All of the plumbing in this bathroom was redone! Alleluiah!
3) We tiled near the tub and vanity area because water damage had really deteriorated the original flooring. We were able to salvage the wood flooring in the doorway area.
4) A door was added and a space from an adjoining closet was used to create a laundry closet.
Today I want to highlight this amazing claw foot tub that was added to this space. This tub had a complete makeover, it was painted a cool antique pewter on the outside, which you can find here. We wanted it to have the appearance of an old galvanized tub. Then each claw foot was given a coating of chrome coloring. The interior was refinished by using the this refinishing kit and it worked like a dream!
The real icing on the cake was this STUNNING claw foot tub faucet, shower enclosure and rain shower head in chrome by Vintage Tub & Bath. It was the crown jewel piece to this historic claw foot tub.
Utilizing hardware that was authentic to the time period was very important, but oftentimes hardware that is 100 years old is not usable for plumbing. Vintage Tub & Bath has an amazing selection of vintage style faucets, bathtubs, sinks, you name it, they have it!
This bathroom will serve as one of the main bathrooms in the home and will be utilized by two of the bedrooms. Having a shower enclosure, shower head, and faucet capability was very important. The chrome finish on the faucet we chose is so spectacular and pairs so nicely with the vintage sink in the bathroom (more on that later!)
We accented the shower enclosure with this cute shower curtain, that has a very antique feel to it!
There is so much more to share in this space; the epic laundry door, the tile floor pattern, the bathroom vanity, the lighting! I can’t wait to share more with you all very soon! Don’t forget to check out Vintage Tub and Bath for all your bath and kitchen products. You can find our exact shower enclosure, faucet, and shower head here in 5 different finishes!
