Fall Book Wall

September 24, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Fall is here and with every changing season I love to switch out the girls' book walls to celebrate! Choosing books with seasonal colors and creative stories to soak in autumn is always my goal. Books can include leaves, scarecrows, pumpkins, fall foods, harvest time, and the many other wonderful reasons to love fall. There are so many special stories out there to share with your children. These are a few of my favorites that we have added to our Fall library this year. The Very Last Leaf Sweep Leaf Man You're My Little Pumpkin Pie Because of an Acorn The Road Not Taken Leif and the Fall  Thanksgiving in the Woods Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn Stumpkin Hello, ...

Amber Glass for Fall Decor

September 16, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Fall is the opportune time to bring out all of the amber glass bottles. The warm glow of amber glass lends itself to the cool, crisp days of Fall. The beautiful rust tones paired with fall leaves is a winning combination. Here is a short history of how these amber glass bottles came into the spotlight, where to find them, and how to style them for the seasons. History of Amber Glass Amber glass is a pale yellow glass that is tinted with sulfur and iron-oxide to give it that red-orange color. As early as the 16th century, amber glass was used for medicine bottles and chemicals to prevent deterioration. It is for this reason that amber glass bottles are still used for beer, certain ...

Antiquing While Traveling

August 12, 2021 by thevettelfarm

You all know me, I love to squeeze in a little antiquing anytime I can. So that means when we are traveling I love to hunt for treasures just the same. I thought it may be helpful to share a few tips  to consider to help you find the best antique stores when you are traveling the country. Sometimes these shops can be hit or miss, so putting a little extra investigative work into your plan can be worth your while. 1. Space First and foremost - keep in mind space. If you are flying to a destination keep in mind what you can realistically take home with you on a plane or if shipping items home is a good option. If you are incorporating shipping into your treasure hunting, make sure you ...

Three Things Thursday

August 5, 2021 by thevettelfarm

My first favorite thing from this week is this awesome Ruggable rug that we just put in the living room. It is the softest rug we have ever had and even better, it's washable. I can sleep easy knowing that those toddler stains are just a thing of the past. I chose this color because I wanted something really moody for Fall and Halloween and these colors lend the perfect neutral tone! It's called the Verena Dark Wood rug and you will be seeing lots of her this fall in our great room. Click here to purchase one for yourself! I am a Pioneer Woman junkie, so I was so excited to see that she has a new cookbook coming out this Fall! It's titled The Pioneer Woman Cooks - Super Easy and you ...

Three Things Thursday

July 29, 2021 by thevettelfarm

I can't believe another week has flown by! It seems as this entire summer is just flashing before my eyes! It probably doesn't help that I am planning for Fall and Christmas at the moment. Magazines and books are my favorite sources of inspiration for the holidays. I love looking at a photo and then pulling new concepts into the design elements to create something new. My favorite source currently leads me to my #1 this week! 1. Country Living Christmas Books - Country Living magazine has a great suite of books all centered on Christmas. I love flipping through the pages to get inspo for the upcoming holiday season. Most of the books even have some tasty recipes too. These are my ...

Antique Insulator Outdoor Lighting

July 27, 2021 by thevettelfarm

Have you ever seen an antique insulator? The most common varieties come in various hues of blue and crystal clear glass. Their initial use was to protect homes from lighting strikes. As history pushed forward, antique insulators were used for electrical and telephone wiring. The first insulators were smaller, as they only needed to protect one wire. Over time more wires were present, hence creating larger insulators. The peak of insulator production was from 1920-1950, when the Unites States moved to providing more telephone access to outlying farms and homes. In the 1950's most electrical companies switched over to porcelain insulators. I have often seen these and always wondered to ...

July 22, 2021 by thevettelfarm

I thought it would be fun to start sharing a few things that I am loving each week. They may range from new books I am reading, the latest vintage inspired decor piece or even just a wonderful Instagram account I have been loving lately. So let's kickoff Friday eve with a few things I have been loving! Finding Freedom - this is the new book by Erin French. I have always been obsessed with her restaurant in Maine and am patiently waiting for my trip to Maine someday to visit her gorgeous place. She has a very unique story and this book details all of her hardships and how she got to where she is today! She also has a series on the new Discovery network that is so captivating to watch. ...

Vintage Camping Bridal Shower

July 8, 2021 by thevettelfarm

When I was little I DREAMED of going to a sleek summer camp in Maine. I was a big fan of the 90s show "Bug Juice" where kids spent their summers at summer camp. I guess we could equate this to my recent love for all things vintage camp style - thermoses, plaid, wool blankets, tennis rackets, paddles - all lend themselves that retro camp vibe. When my sister got engaged, I knew exactly what theme I would plan for her bridal shower. Her and her fiance have a strong love for travel and camping. She also has small love for vintage, as do I. So vintage camping theme was the perfect pair. I knew I had lots of decor to contribute, but I wanted the menu to incorporate that camp feeling ...

I used a combination of wildflower seeds, sand and vermiculite to spread around the raked dirt areas. The rain the next few days should help sow them in. I used a straw blanket to help protect the seeds from birds (I plan to add more).

Will it work? Follow along to find out! 🌸🌺🌻

Still one of my favorite projects EVER! And yes ev Still one of my favorite projects EVER! And yes every antique lamp I come across I want to transform into a planter. There are just so many out there looking for a new purpose! 🛋️

To create this planter, make sure to hunt for lamps that have components to hold the hanging basket. This lamp had 4 smaller light components that made it perfect to carry the weight of the basket.

When I tell you I dragged my feet on this project When I tell you I dragged my feet on this project forever, I truly did. I could not wrap my brain around how to get the back off of a watch, but it is so darn easy! This project literally took me 10 minutes.

So a few notes, to take the back off of a watch,it’s very simple. You’re going to put a small amount of hot glue on the back of the watch and then glue on a wooden pencil. Let it dry then you’re going to simply twist and it will pop right off. When you’re ready to put the back on the watch, simply peel the glue off and pop it back on.

The other gadget that made this project so simple was the Polaroid printer that I have. I simply took a picture of an existing picture, printed it, and then cut it out by tracing the back of the watch.

The photo itself slips right in front of the watch mechanism so you don’t even have to take anything out if you wanted to keep the watch itself intact.

I chose to do my mom and both of my grandma’s and I cannot tell you how happy this project makes me feel to see their smiling faces. 💗💗💗💗

Comment PRINTER and I’ll send you the link of the Polaroid printer that I used! Don’t forget to look at that jewelry table at the next garage sale you’re at for those fancy vintage watches!
