Rhubarb Margaritas

Happy Cinco De Mayo! It has been a very fiery week here in North Dakota, so I thought to lighten the mood we definitely need some margaritas in our life! And what a better way to kick off the return of warmer weather and the hint of summer right around the corner. Rhubarb is one of my favorite things to freeze, so we can enjoy it all year long. These margaritas are my absolute favorite thing to make with Rhubarb Syrup!  First, I cooked the rhubarb with water to extract all of the rhubarb goodness and paired that with a little sugar. I let that mixture meld in the fridge for a few hours. Then mix with tequila and ice and POOF you have a succulent rhubarb margarita to sip ...

Jadeite Inspired Sugar Cookies

I can not tell you how over the moon I was to receive these amazing jadeite inspired cookie cutters from Amador's Craft Kits! They are the perfect shape of the famous Fireking jadeite ball pitcher and Fireking jadite D-ring mug. He also included an adorable pyrex cookie cutter set too! You can find all of his amazing craft sets here! Now with the most amazing cookie cutters, I had to craft the best sugar cookie and jadeite icing combo to give these cuties justice. This is one of my favorite sugar cookie recipes. I love that you don't have to refrigerate the dough, so you can make it, cut, and bake them right away! As far as icing, I truly hit the jackpot. I used a basic royal ...

“New” Vintage Hardware for the Victorian on Van Buren

Deadwood, South Dakota is known for it's vast history in mineral mining, so choosing the right hardware for the Victorian on Van Buren was critical! The best thing we did for the restoration of our 1885 Victorian home was to get all new coordinating light switch plates and electrical outlet plates. The small touches in this renovation have made the biggest impact. The first compliment we always receive is about the hardware in this fixer upper! All of the light switch plates and electrical outlet covers are from Nostalgic Warehouse. We chose their Victorian switch plate, which was the perfect choice! It has so much charm and character and is characteristic of the Victorian homes of ...

Antique Heater Grate DIY

Back in the day, heater grates were so stunning! They had intricate patterns and the most beautiful patina. I have seen really neat projects where people make beautiful tabletops out of them, but I'm not that talented yet! I knew I wanted to display this gorgeous piece for spring and what better than tucking in a few faux succulents? Faux succulents are seriously the best ever! They look very authentic, they are relatively inexpensive and YOU NEVER HAVE TO WATER THEM! That's my favorite part! The opportunities are endless here, you could fill the entire grate with small succulents or create a pattern like I did with the draped succulents. No matter what you choose, it is a neat display ...

Collecting Delphite

Many of you know that my one true love collectible is jadeite, but have you ever met Jadeite's sister Delphite? It's funny to say that because my youngest sister is actually the one who started this delphite collection. I wanted to share a little about Delphite with you because when I shared this last year, there were SO many questions and I had a lot to learn. Delphite was actually produced during the same time as jadeite, it even sold for the same price during the depression era. Long before the jadeite craze, delphite was a hot collection item too. Delphite was produced in much smaller quantities, hence making it more expensive and harder to find today. One of my favorite brands of ...

Victorian on Van Buren Main Bathroom – Claw Foot Tub Reveal!

I am so ecstatic to be sharing the first bathroom of the Victorian on Van Buren renovations. Bathrooms were the one area in our farmhouse that we have not yet tackled, so to renovate these historic spaces in the Victorian on Van Buren was such an exhilarating project. The main bathroom was original to the home in 1895 (when the second story was added). It had marvelous bead board surrounding the entire space and an epic claw foot tub. The footprint of this bathroom stayed very close to what it originally was in 1895. Here are a few elements that were changed: 1) The original claw foot tub was moved out and a smaller, more appropriate size, historic claw foot tub was put in it's place. ...

“You’re My Everything” Bagel Valentine Party

Each year my girls and I celebrate Valentine's Day with a small breakfast or lunch with just us gals. In the past we have done mini pancakes, donuts, fruit arrows and this year the request was for BAGELS! There is nothing more that we love than a good everything bagel. What could be more perfect, because these little girls are truly my everything! The Table The table this year centered on nothing more than the bagel! I used the adorable mini jadeite cake stands from the Magnolia line on top of a vintage Alice jadeite plate. Add a vintage tablecloth and a few vintage napkins and it's a party! I also incorporated my favorite jadeite reproduction pieces too, you can find out more about ...
