Back to School Freezer Meals Part II

August 10, 2022 by thevettelfarm

School supplies, school buses, school shopping - it's that time of year! Students around the country will head back to school in the next few weeks and that means BUSY schedules. But busy schedules does not mean you have to skip a wonderful home cooked meal. Enter the freezer meal! A few years ago I shared 15 of our favorite back to school freezer meals and they were a huge hit! They are so convenient to have on a busy school night and you will feel like Super Mom at the end of the day. Here is the link to the original 15 Back to School Freezer Meals! I made all five of the new recipes in one day and doubled them all for a total of 10 dinners for our family! They were relatively easy ...

State Fair Lemonade

July 27, 2022 by thevettelfarm

Every state fair we attend I make a B-line to the lemonade stand. There is nothing that compares to that savory big cup of lemonade full of chunky lemons and the absolute best lemonade ever. So throughout the summer I find myself craving this delicious fair treat, so I decided to make my own! The true star here is marinating those lemon rinds in the sugar for 12 hours. This is the perfect key to success for creating the most perfect lemonade. So if it's hot where you are or if you are just missing your fair favorite drink of choice, this recipe is for you. State Fair Lemonade 7 Lemons1 1/2 cups Sugar6 cups Cold Water Wash lemons and peel lemon rinds ...

Victorian on Van Buren Carriage House: Details

July 8, 2022 by thevettelfarm

I have said it before and I will say it again, it's all in the DETAILS! Special details are what make renovations worth the extra time and effort. Incorporating special details into any historical project is extra important. Small elements like hardware, trim, and accent walls are all important decisions in the design process. Here are a few elements that we incorporated into the Victorian on Van Buren in the carriage house apartment to give it that extra charm. Entryway For this apartment we had to incorporate an entryway because it attached to a garage. To do this we knew we wanted to incorporate an antique door. We found an antique door with a window, which was perfect because it ...

5 Vintage Fourth of July Tablescape Ideas

June 28, 2022 by thevettelfarm

Fourth of July in our area lends two paths - lake time or rodeos paired with parades. Most of my Fourth of July celebrations have been spent on the back of a horse in a rodeo arena carrying an American flag or waving to fans in the parade but I’m happy to report that this year will be much cooler for our family - AT THE LAKE! To kick off this Fourth of July pre-week I wanted to share a few patriotic ideas to incorporate a little vintage into your 4th of July festivities! Vintage Tablecloths Interestingly enough I only allow myself to collect vintage tablecloths that are red, white, and blue (and vintage Christmas tablecloths too). Vintage tablecloths have the cutest patterns and the ...

Vintage Inspired Enamelware

June 24, 2022 by thevettelfarm

When we moved from New York to South Dakota, there were many items that we left behind. One of those items that made the trek was my Mom's antique enamelware lobster pot. It is a beautiful hue of turquoise and it makes the perfect lobster every time. Enamelware screams summer, the patterns, the colors all lend themself to a sweet, summer night. Last week, I shared a few different ways to style enamelware, so this week I'm going to share a few favorite pieces that you can incorporate into your home! Vintage enamelware can be easy to find, but if you are looking for something a little less expensive there are so many wonderful vintage inspired enamelware pieces on the market. As we plan for ...

Victorian on Van Buren Carriage House Reveal: Part I

June 22, 2022 by thevettelfarm

The long awaited reveal of the carriage house apartment of the Victorian on Van Buren is finally here! We were so lucky to find this beautiful 1880 historic Victorian home in the heart of Deadwood, South Dakota and even more lucky that we had a wonderful garage/apartment space that came with it! The original state of the garage/apartment was not that appealing, so it needed a complete overhaul. Check out how this space looked when we began! Why We Chose Select Surfaces Vinyl Flooring This transformation is one for the record books and the quintessential feature of this apartment is the amazing flooring. We chose vinyl flooring from Select Surfaces in the Sedona color. You can find it ...

Put on your glamorous hat and let's get ready to run for the roses at the Kentucky Derby! There is something so exciting about watching those majestic horses speed around the track at Churchill Downs and cheering on your favorite horse! But there is also something so spectacular about hosting a festive Kentucky Derby party for those few minutes of horse racing! I can think of so many quintessential Kentucky Derby foods, but it's the perfect cocktail that makes a Kentucky Derby party. So what better way to celebrate than with an adorable derby drink stirrer. These are so easy to make and they can be used year to year! You can choose any color to spray paint these. I have included links ...

Chicken Jadeite

April 25, 2022 by thevettelfarm

Can you all hear that glorious sound in the distance? It's that of a quirky rooster sounding his alarm for you to start the day! It is the quintessential sound of a farm. Two years ago we became chicken owners and it has been a fun experience for our entire family. At The Vettel Farm we not only have chickens outside, but I love to incorporate them into our decor for the summer months, especially in the form of jadeite! Most jadeite chickens are reproduction in nature, meaning they were not made by the big three vintage jadeite production companies; McKee, Jeanette, & Anchor Hocking Fireking. "Vintage" Jadeite Chickens Most antique dealers define vintage as an item that is at ...

When I tell you I dragged my feet on this project When I tell you I dragged my feet on this project forever, I truly did. I could not wrap my brain around how to get the back off of a watch, but it is so darn easy! This project literally took me 10 minutes.

So a few notes, to take the back off of a watch,it’s very simple. You’re going to put a small amount of hot glue on the back of the watch and then glue on a wooden pencil. Let it dry then you’re going to simply twist and it will pop right off. When you’re ready to put the back on the watch, simply peel the glue off and pop it back on.

The other gadget that made this project so simple was the Polaroid printer that I have. I simply took a picture of an existing picture, printed it, and then cut it out by tracing the back of the watch.

The photo itself slips right in front of the watch mechanism so you don’t even have to take anything out if you wanted to keep the watch itself intact.

I chose to do my mom and both of my grandma’s and I cannot tell you how happy this project makes me feel to see their smiling faces. 💗💗💗💗

Comment PRINTER and I’ll send you the link of the Polaroid printer that I used! Don’t forget to look at that jewelry table at the next garage sale you’re at for those fancy vintage watches!
